EDI Partners With Greenkraft, CEC to provide First CNG-PHEV Class-4 Truck
Efficient Drivetrains, Inc. (EDI) announced a high-profile partnership to develop a first-of-its-kind, Class-4 vehicle that combines some great benefits of compressed natural gas (CNG) plus PHEV technology.
In partnership with Greenkraft, CALSTART, and the California Electrical power Commission, the effort supports the rapid movements in California when it comes to a zero pollutants environment. The effort combines EDIs intelligent PHEV powertrain with Greenkrafts CNG-powered 16,500-pound, Class-4 medium-duty truck. EDIs solution could improve the fuel economy associated with a conventional CNG-powered medium-duty truck simply by more than 40 percent.
In sure duty cycles utilizing shorter daily fuel consumption rate requirements or where periodic plug-in recharging is possible throughout the day, it may even be possible to completely take away the use of CNG, achieve 100-percent all-electric zero-emissions vehicle (ZEV) operations, and achieve a successful MPGe of 26.9an development of 300 percentage over the baseline CNG truck.
EDIs announcement came as well with a grant approval for the combined cooperation by the California Strength Commission of capital from its Energy Analysis and Development Division. The unanimously accredited $900,000 grant, props up state directive to help accelerate research together with development of advanced natural gas engine-hybrid electric vehicles for light- and heavy-duty applications.
EDIs CNG-PHEV is a first-of-its-kind innovation, and represents a totally new market application form for EDIs proprietary technology, said Joerg Ferchau, co-founder and Founder of EDI. The CNG-PHEV delivers a market-disruptive motor vehicle that will help fleets switch out of petroleum-based liquid fuelsgasoline and dieselto domestically available, cleaner-burning natural gas together with electricity. Technology offers tremendous potential for commercial viability and can perform an essential role in helping California meet it is long-term carbon reduction as well as short-term zero-emissions goals.
